Guy Sara – Special Counsel
Some of Guy’s more important cases:
Guy grew up at and was raised near Bondi Beach.
He started his working life as an accountant (after a brief period as a tyre salesman) and worked as a financial accountant for some of Australia’s biggest companies such as APN News & Media and Boral. A sense of wanderlust led him to the UK where he stayed for nearly 3 years and during this time when he was working in the finance department of Ede & Ravenscroft his interest in a legal career was piqued. (Ede & Ravenscroft are the Queen’s ceremonial tailor and the world’s leading supplier of legal regalia).
Guy spent a further year travelling through the Middle East. This was where he learned the seminal lesson of his legal career – conflict does not work.
Upon returning to Australia Guy studied law at night and worked as a CPA by day in ‘once’ small family businesses such as Newslink and NFS. This taught him lessons you just don’t learn in law or business school, when with delight he saw his former bosses become gazillionaires!!
Three years later Guy was a newly minted law graduate and offered a one year associateship with His Honour Judge Knight of the District Court of NSW. Two hundred applied, ten were interviewed and Guy got the job. Although no slouch, Guy was astonished and asked the Judge how? His Honour’s reply: ‘You were the most honest’.
Then Guy spent three years with a leading criminal law firm in Sydney which acted for some ‘colourful racing identities’. In turn, they referred family law and civil matters to him and Guy got some good grassroots litigation experience.
A young lady led Guy to Qld and thence the private Bar. Nine years were spent appearing in Courts throughout Queensland, with regular appearances in Sydney and Melbourne. Family law, Coronial inquests and civil advice work were the mainstay.
Guy can lay claim to the following:
When he is not plunging into the depths of your case he can often be found plunging into the ocean as an advanced scuba diver. Cooking, animals, longboard surfing, international Rugby (not playing) and biochemistry are just a few of his other interests.
Guy has been briefed by Aylward Game since 2006. They gave him his first jury trial. He was at their office so often that one of the partners joked “Do you want a job?”. We like ‘Bondi Guy’ and sure you will too.
